The Solar Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes and honors a champion who exemplifies the Solar Six through outstanding volunteer service.
Volunteer exhibits the Solar Six model through a contribution of their time, skills and resources toward the Solar Schools and Scholars.
Impact Scholars lives through necessity, education and emotional support, advocacy on behalf of all Scholars, and social engagement.
Recognition of alignment through attributes and impact to Scholar lives. Recipient shall receive a certificate noting their achievement.
Board member contribution of a monetary gift to the Scholar Impact Fund (formerly COVID fund) in recipient honor.
Michaela is the backbone of the Peace Pantry, supporting every project the pantry championed in the 2022-2023 academic year. Her leadership shown through as the Project Manager for special projects. Michaela maintained clear and effective communication for concurrent projects with quick timelines. She explored new communication platforms and formats, ensuring messages reached Solar families.

Nancy Bernardino is living her dream: devoting herself to empower girls to become the leaders of the future.
As principal of Solar Preparatory School for Girls in Old East Dallas, Bernardino works to inspire and prepare girls to build a more equitable and fair society.
TURNER, Jennifer Leigh Jennifer Leigh Turner, age 41, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019, with family by her side, at the T. Boone Pickens Center of Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas, Texas, following a brief but fierce fight against cancer.
In celebration of Assistant Principals Week, schools across the nation are thanking their assistant principals in a variety of ways. Solar Preparatory School for Girls hosted an assembly to celebrate their beloved Assistant Principal Jennifer Turner.
Solar Preparatory School for Girls needs additional outdoor play space to accommodate all of the girls. Friends of Solar Prep (FOSP) applied for an opportunity to pitch Lyda Hill for a $100,000 grant to build a new playground and surrounding security fence to provide enough equipment and space for all the girls to participate in outdoor free play. The playground and associated green space would provide 4,575 additional square feet of play area.
